We had an early Seder dinner at Saba and Safta's house Saturday night. This morning, as Leeor and Avi drove me to work, we listened to a story about Passover on NPR . . . Avi repeated, "Seder dinner," and Leeor asked him whether we'd had one over the weekend.
Avi replied, "Yes, at Saba and Safta's house. And another guy was there!" He was referring to a friend of the family who joined us. It was so funny the way he said it. The details and complexity of the holiday are mostly lost to him, but he spoke of his memory as if he were sharing a big insight with us. Maybe he was.
On Friday, we took the ferry across the bay to Angel Island. I continued my newly found tough mama streak by riding a bicycle around the island. No small feat at almost 33 weeks! Avi had a massive meltdown when he realized he would be riding in a cart behind Aba's bicycle, rather than riding his own. But we worked through it. And his helmet remained tucked away during the ride, only to reappear after it was over, because one should safely eat fish n chips, right?
Here's to freedom from anything that prevents us from being our truest, most authentic selves. I love Passover. And Safta makes the best matzoh ball soup. Ever.

My dad called me yesterday to ask if I had removed all the bread from the house; this, as I popped three doughy loaves in the oven.
Whoops!
Spending holidays with friends is the best.
Blessings,
Rachel
