M called in sick today and I awoke with a little cold, too (not that I would have stayed home; I am obsessed with not taking any sick or vacation time before my maternity leave begins in May, but c'est la vie), so I have the great pleasure of a beautiful Monday at home with Avi.
He is so funny. I welcome his bossiness and the indecision that comes with it; as we left the house, he first said he wanted to go to the Academy of Sciences. Sure, no problem. So I glided the stroller down the hill and made a left turn to take the Muni train toward Golden Gate Park. Then he asked, "What are we doing today?" I had not one ounce of agenda. The sun was shining and it felt like such a treat to be with Avi. "Maybe we'll go to the parque," he suggested, "Upper oh-knee," which is what he calls a park that is actually named Upper Noe. I was agreeable and then he said, "Maybe we go to Glen Park instead." So I turned the stroller around and there we went, in no rush, with no plan.
How I look forward to 4 whole months at home with Avi and baby sister!! A Monday felt so different from a Friday, though believe me, I am grateful for my Fridays at home. The beginning of the week simply has a different energy to it, and so do we. Even with the time change. Even with some sniffles and a gigantic belly (a mom of two at the park asked me how much longer I had to go and when I told her she gave me the most empathic, sympathetic look. It was awesome), I had more energy this morning than I do at the end of a long week. It didn't matter that I was answering pages from the hospital and checking emails (while Avi tackled me from behind), I still am at home this whole gorgeous day with my little bear. I felt like a "good mom" as we leisurely made our way home from the park. Avi wanted to stop countless times, or have me carry him, or help me push the stroller. And it didn't matter, because our day is our own.
The pictures are recent ones just to document this moment in time . . .we went to a fancy party this weekend and Leeor dug out his tux for the occasion. He hasn't worn it since our wedding and the cutest thing was when he turned a shoe over to find a Heineken bottle cap stuck to its sole. I felt enormous and not at all cute in my good old black maternity dress (and learned that it's not a good idea to wear heels while 31 weeks pregnant), but it was fun to get dressed up and go out. Plus, the Pointer Sisters (!) performed and that pretty much made my night.
I love the photo of Avi and Leeor together. Avi is really, really into imitating Leeor right now. So when Leeor put on a vest to head out into a chilly day, Avi immediately asked for his vest. My guys.
It's nice to know I am ready to stay home again; that I finally feel settled into myself and eager to meet this little girl. Avi has been into her too, which he demonstrates by kissing my belly and bringing her toys via laying them atop my belly. And Leeor's nonprofit got another grant, which eases some financial anxiety for another 6 months. Spring makes everything feel a little easier. Bring on the change!

Melissa,
These are lovely times, just you and your boy. And so nice that you gave into the day, enjoying it, when you may have felt you needed to be at work. (I often reflect on the time Col and I had together when he was 2, before his sister was born...so special).
I am jealous that you're already into park weather in California; yum.
We went to the Academy of Sciences on a recent Bay Area trip. It made my head spin. We loved the red jellyfish but mostly the BART ride over from Berkeley.
Take care,
Rachel
