Is it Friday yet?

I am having one of those weeks.  It could be worse.

The wild wind is making me crazy.  Spring in San Francisco is so unpredictable!  Today I was completely underdressed in a skirt, short-sleeved blouse, and Mary Janes.  No tights, no scarf. I only wore a sweater on top!  I really need to watch the local news in the morning so I don't get seduced by the sun rising over the east bay and spreading its golden brilliance across the city . . . it looked so warm from my living room that I was convinced it would actually be warm outside.

So I ran back and forth from the hospital to the buildings that house my office, the clinic, the doctors' offices.  All day I was paged here and there and always relieved to arrive in a building where it was warm because it was so chilly and flip-up-your-skirt-windy outside.  My hands remain cold.

When I finally arrived at home and thankfully, blissfully entered the relative warmth, Avi was pretty nonplussed with me.  I tried not to mind too much.  I know it's actually a good thing for him to be doing his own thing and exploring his independence.  The other side of that is his spontaneous clinginess, which is not so fun.  The strange thing was that then he wanted to nurse.  All last week we eschewed the afternoon nurse and it was no problem.  So I just told him that we weren't nursing in the afternoon anymore and that we could nurse later.  I remembered Dr. Sears saying something about distracting toddlers when they want to nurse.  So I got him a cracker and held him close while he nibbled it.  We had some pretty blissful time sitting like this after M and the share care family all went home.  Avi and I snuggled on the couch in front of Dragon Tales, this PBS cartoon that has seemingly little educational value but is instead this trippy show about 2 Latino siblings (in Echo Park?, Leeor and I wonder to each other) who have a "magic rock" they wish on that takes them to "Dragon Land," where they have fun adventures with their pastel colored dragon buddies.  I actually kind of like it, and Avi loves all the singing and dancing.  So we vegged out together and I felt like we both must have needed it.

I was supposed to host living room yoga tonight but I just couldn't.  I feel a little under the weather, a little strung out though it's only Tuesday.   Instead I will eat something warm and delicious, like leftover lasagna or some of Safta's homemade soup.  One of these days I will write more about Avi feeding himself and slinging soup all over the place.  He's pretty great and I love watching his independent self blossom.  It does make me a little nostalgic for last spring, when I was on maternity leave and we spent our days walking through Glen Canyon, lunching with friends, lounging in our pjs and I cooked a lot . . .like I said, I am having one of those weeks.  It's not bad, either.  It's just tax week, post Passover and Easter and the intoxication of the Spring Equinox has given way to a kind of Spring fever that has me eager for some time off, some relaxation.  However, I only have 14 hours of paid vacation to my name right now.  So long live the long weekend!  I can't wait til the next one arrives in a couple of days . . .
