Spring Saturday in Sonoma

Our little Lilit likes to shop; she loves books as much as she likes skirts and dresses. Today, after fortifying our family of four with vegan brunch from Pebbles Donut Farm on San Pablo Avenue (just on the other side of the Berkeley/Oakland border), we piled into the car and drove up to Sonoma. Leeor needed to pick up a donation from Ravenswood winery. It was for the PILF (Public Interest Law Foundation) auction at Golden Gate Law School and it gave us a fun family adventure.
We found ourselves in the bookstore--which was no accident as Leeor had looked it up and happily lead us there. He manages to find a bookstore wherever we go.
We had a great day.
I think it was my $5 hat making the rounds that added a special comic element to the experience at Ravenswood.
And the shenanigans.
Our little flower is almost 2. Ilse brought this beautiful dress from Mexico for her and I loved seeing it one her all day.
She was a big hit at the winery and also in town.
Sweet Lilit; serious Aba.
I gave Avi a little trim this week and he kept exclaiming about not having hair in his eyes. He was hamming it up today.
The kids loved hanging out and having a picnic. They piled rocks on the tables and Lilit especially seemed to enjoy exploring the sensation of gravel under her ballerina'd feet.

Avi wanted to climb the tree to get to the birdhouse but eventually settled for me lifting him up so he could peek inside.
Lilit napped on the way up and Avi crashed out on the way back. He had such a meltdown after we got home and I sat with him in his room for awhile as he worked through it. Leeor and Lilit read her new book (it's a potty book and she is back at the potty but I am trying not to get too attached). He eventually rallied after two slices of bread with butter. Then he specifically asked for carrots and broccoli for dinner. I whispered dramatically to Leeor, "Oh, thank god he is eating vegetables again!" while he shrugged. Just more evolution in the age of 4.

Spring is officially coming later this month but we are loving the sunshine as we celebrate our first anniversary in this house. A young couple at the winery asked us if we were "local" and I heard myself saying, "We live in Berkeley," and just letting the words hang without following up with a mention of our previous tenure in San Francisco. Moving forward, settling in, letting go. Welcoming another season, my second favorite after fall.

Avi told Leeor yesterday during drop off at school, "Aba, you picked the best school for me!" And it feels like we lucked out, too. Our new home, our new community is getting worn in and feels comfortable. Which makes it easier to continue to ignore the mess from the week and upload photos instead, climb into bed and hope the kids sleep in like they did this morning.
