I love my day off, especially now that I get to spend it with my baby girl. We miss Avi but it's also nice to lounge around together and let her have the limelight for a little while.
Then we go pick Avi up from school at 3:00 and today we found him still curled up asleep on his little cot; all the other kids were awake and his teacher was bemused. I just wanted to suspend time for a moment--my sweet big boy appeared as innocent as the tiny baby he once was, his lovey secure at his side.
I sat down on the floor next to Lilit (in her carseat) and waited. Chatted with moms and kids. Avi eventually awoke and took in the buzzing classroom around him. He asked for his "little challah." He was still groggy as we got into the car and I noticed Leeor had called so I called him back before I turned the key in the ignition.
"Where are you?" he asked breathlessly; I knew without asking he was pedaling his bike up hill. "Come meet me and let's take the kids to eat. C'mon, it'll be fun!" he urged before I could fret about routines and diapers and such.
So we had an early dinner in the Mission and the kids were still in bed by 7:00. I will turn in momentarily, too; Lilit has a cold and who knows what the night will bring.
The first week of November has been beautiful and I am learning to slow down when I can, to enjoy my kids instead of worry about my messy house, to let things go a little more. Everyone I know who has two kids told me that the first 6 months are the hardest . . .I don't know if I completely agree--there were times early one that felt easier than some times we have now--but I definitely feel more settled with the passing of each day. Life is good like that.
